Recently retired from an office job, Alan Holly leaves his comfortable home to walk from Lands End to John O'Groats, in spite of the fact that he has never walked more than a dozen miles in his life. The film follows the effects of this journey on his wife, family and neighbours, intercut with the many extraordinary people he comes across during his walk.
Shown in the UK as part of the 'Screen One Special' series. Repeated on BBC2 in two parts on consecutive nights.
Michelle Gomez appears briefly as a nurse during the main character's walk through Scotland. She calls Mr Holly from the hospital waiting room and leads him along a corridor. He diverts to a toilet to vomit and she follows him in as the door closes behind them.
